Peaceful Conduct of 2026 Ebonyi LG Elections Reflects Faith in Democracy — Ekumankama

The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Barr. Joseph Ekumankama, has described the peaceful conduct of the 2026 Ebonyi State local government elections as a positive reflection of the people’s faith in democracy and their desire for accountable leadership.

Ekumankama stated this on Monday while reacting to the outcome of the elections held across the 13 local government areas of the state.

He commended the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for conducting the elections, as well as the voters and other stakeholders for contributing to the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise.

According to him, the orderly conduct of the polls demonstrated that democracy thrives when citizens are given the opportunity to freely participate in choosing their leaders.

“The peaceful conduct of the local government elections is encouraging and reflects the people’s faith in democracy. It shows that our people understand the importance of participating in the democratic process and choosing leaders who will serve their interests,” Ekumankama said.

He congratulated the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors, urging them to see their victories as a call to service rather than an opportunity for personal gain.

He urged the new council leadership to align their development programmes with the state government’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda while also developing local solutions to address the peculiar challenges of their respective communities.

He also called for inclusive governance, urging the council chairmen to carry traditional rulers, women, youths, community leaders and other stakeholders along in the administration of their respective local government areas.

Ekumankama, who monitored the election after casting his vote at his polling unit in Amangwu Ward, Edda Local Government Area, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and orderly conduct of the exercise.

He further commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for providing a peaceful and conducive environment for the elections, noting that the atmosphere surrounding the polls was encouraging for the growth of democracy in the state.

The APC candidate also praised the leadership of the party in Ebonyi State, led by Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, for mobilising party members and supporters across the state and sustaining stability within the party during the election period.
