Elder Onwe Ubochi’s Death: APC Calls for Thorough Probe, Condemns Political Allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Elder Onwe Ubochi, a 70-year-old man from Osege, Umuogudu-Oshia, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the APC Chairman in Ohaukwu LGA, Engr. Okeh Charles Kelechi, the party expressed sympathy with the family of the deceased and the entire Umuogudu-Oshia community over the incident.

The party, however, condemned what it described as “unfounded political allegations” surrounding the death of Elder  Ubochi, who was reportedly found dead in a stream at Osege, Umuogudu-Oshia, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

The APC also faulted allegations allegedly made by the APGA candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Mr. Tochukwu Ogalegu, as well as his media aides and supporters, linking the incident to political activities.

According to the APC, the unfortunate death is a matter that requires a thorough investigation rather than political insinuations or accusations against individuals or political parties.

The statement reads:

«“The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohaukwu Local Government Area has been drawn to the unfortunate incident that happened at Osege, Umuogudu-Oshia, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, where an aged man of over 70 years, Elder Onwe Ubochi, was reportedly found dead in a stream.”»

«“While we sincerely sympathise with the family of the deceased and convey our condolences, on behalf of the APC Ohaukwu LGA Chapter, to the family and, indeed, the Umuogudu-Oshia community, we condemn in its entirety the deliberate allegations by the APGA candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Mr. Tochukwu Ogalegu, against our party, the APC.”»

«“It is an unfortunate situation that calls for total condemnation and not the insinuations or allegations that have been peddled by the APGA candidate, his media aides and some supporters.”»

«“The wrong narrative that it is political is not just erroneous but unfounded. Our party has maintained its peaceful disposition, and our campaigns are issue-based. The policies of our government, ably led by our peace-loving Governor and leader, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, are visible, viable and people-oriented.”»

«“Hence, we would rather preserve and sustain life than take it.»

«“It is worrisome and totally insensitive to hastily accuse anyone over an issue presently being investigated by the relevant authorities. We, therefore, call on the security agencies not to leave any stone unturned in unraveling the truth about the unfortunate incident.”»

«“We are not ignorant of the antics and calculated attempts of Tochukwu Ogalegu and his media team to undermine our great party through unruly comments, mindless accusations and other forms of political sentiments.”»

«“The wrong narrative is a calculated attempt to paint the image of His Excellency, the leader of our great party, in a bad light and also cause unrest in the Ohaukwu political space and Ebonyi State.”»

«“Furthermore, the public and security agencies are invited to take note that this is suspected to be one of the antics of the APGA candidate, Mr. Tochukwu Ogalegu, to launch attacks against members of the ruling party, APC, and its candidates under the guise of reprisal.”»

«“Meanwhile, we encourage members of our great party and the general public to disregard the misinformation and continue to be law-abiding in their daily activities while enjoying the peace provided by our leader and Governor across the state.”» The statement stated.
