The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Barr. Joseph Ekumankama, has paid an Ike Ji homage to High Chief Julius Ama Orji, Ochiri as part of activities marking the 2026 Igba Nzu Nguzu Edda New Yam Festival.
Ekumankama visited the palatial residence of the respected Edda leader at Nguzu Edda, where he joined other dignitaries to celebrate the annual festival, which is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage and traditions of the people.
The visit provided an opportunity for the APC candidate to honour High Chief Ama Orji Ochiri and identify with the people of Nguzu Edda in celebrating the harvest season and the cultural significance of the New Yam Festival.
Speaking during the visit, Ekumankama described the Igba Nzu New Yam Festival as an important cultural institution that promotes unity, communal bonds, and appreciation for the blessings of the farming season.
He stressed the need for the people of Nguzu Edda to continue to preserve and promote their cultural heritage, noting that festivals such as Igba Nzu provide an avenue for younger generations to understand and sustain the traditions of their ancestors.
The former Minister also commended High Chief Julius Ama Orji Ochiri for his contributions to the development and preservation of the cultural values of the Edda people.
He wished the High Chief, his family, and the people of Nguzu Edda a peaceful and prosperous New Yam season, while calling for continued unity, peace, and development across Edda communities.
The Igba Nzu New Yam Festival, which has been celebrated for decades, remains one of the significant cultural events in Nguzu Edda, bringing together sons and daughters of the community at home and in the diaspora to celebrate the harvest and strengthen communal ties.
