The General Manager of the Ebonyi State Transport Corporation (EBOTRANS), Hon. Mrs. Jennifer Nnenna Igwe, has lauded the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, for her sustained humanitarian interventions and women empowerment initiatives across the state.
Igwe gave the commendation during the grand finale of the 2026 Ebonyi Women August Meeting held at the Pa Ngene Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.
The annual gathering, organised by the Governor’s wife for women across the 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State, was held under the theme, “The Power of Resilient Women in Nation Building.”
The event brought together women from across the state to celebrate their resilience, unity and achievements, while reinforcing their roles in family development, peace-building and community advancement.
Speaking with journalists at the occasion, Igwe described the theme as timely, saying it captured the strength, determination and resilience that Ebonyi women have demonstrated over the years in the face of social and economic challenges.
She noted that women had remained critical contributors to the growth and development of the state through agriculture, food production, petty trading, entrepreneurship and other economic activities.
“The resilience of Ebonyi women did not begin today. Over the years, our women have played critical roles in farming, food production, sustenance of families and the economic development of our communities,” she said.
Igwe further described the August Meeting as more than an annual social gathering, stressing that it had become a platform for women to strengthen their bonds, promote unity and renew their commitment to peace, family values and community development.
She particularly praised Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru for what she described as impactful humanitarian and empowerment programmes targeted at women, vulnerable persons and other less-privileged members of society.
According to her, the initiatives have enabled beneficiaries to improve their livelihoods, become economically self-reliant and contribute more effectively to the welfare of their families and communities.
“I commend Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, for her commitment to humanitarian service and women empowerment. Her interventions are touching lives and giving many women renewed hope and opportunities to become self-reliant,” Igwe said.
The EBOTRANS General Manager also commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for promoting greater participation of women in governance and development, describing women as indispensable partners in the progress of the state.
Igwe, who expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Nwifuru, pledged to mobilise massive support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly among women in Ishielu Local Government Area and across Ebonyi State.
She said sustained mobilisation, unity and active participation of women would be crucial to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
“We will continue to mobilise our women massively for the APC in 2027. We believe in the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and we will continue to support programmes and policies that promote empowerment, peace, good governance and improved living conditions for our people,” she added.
