August Meeting: Nwifuru Charges Ebonyi Women to Drive Positive Change

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has urged Ebonyi women to rise and inspire positive change in their environment, describing them as agents of social change.
The Governor made this call at the grand finale of the 2025 Ebonyi Women August Meeting, with the theme “Women who Inspire Change.”
The event was held at the Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, the State Capital, and featured lectures by Prof. Nkechi Emma-Echiegu, Rev. Fr. Ogodo, and Chief Mrs. Winifred Lebechi-Mbam.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, GCEHF, expressed appreciation to the State First Lady, Chief Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, for her support to his administration through her BERWO Foundation.

He assured the First Lady of his administration's readiness to continue partnering with her foundation in empowering Ebonyi women and children.
The Governor advised Ebonyi women to utilize the lessons from this year's August meeting to effect great change in their families, stating that his administration would continue to inspire and support women in realizing their dreams.

The wife of the Governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, thanked the State Governor for his commitment to improving the lives of women in the State and assured him of the continued support of Ebonyi women for his People's Charter of Needs administration.

She charged women to use their potential to inspire change in society, emphasizing that change is not only about holding public office but also about teaching children, mentoring others, and building families rooted in values.

According to her, “Change is the responsibility of everyone in raising godly and disciplined children. Inspire change by practising honesty and excellence and by building communities and standing against violence and injustice, among others. Let us also remember that empowering one another is key. No woman should pull another down but instead create a sisterhood of support, mentorship, and collective growth.”

The highpoint of the event was the disbursement of wheelchairs to 10 disabled persons and a scholarship to a beneficiary, Oluebube Uzochi.
The event was attended by top dignitaries, including former First Ladies of the state, wives of former Deputy Governors, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the wife of the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, and physically challenged persons who were gifted with wheelchairs by the First Lady of the state.
