The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State in the 2027 general election, Joseph Ekumankama, has called on the people of Edda, Edda Local Government Area of the state to sustain the spirit of unity in the area for the victory of the party.
He made the call at the 2026 New Yam Festival celebration of Edda people in Lagos, where prominent sons and daughters of the clan gathered to celebrate their cultural heritage.
The former Minister of State for Health said the annual New Yam Festival had grown beyond a mere cultural celebration, describing it as an important platform for Edda people at home and in the diaspora to reconnect with their roots, strengthen unity and collectively reflect on the future of their homeland.
He commended the organisers and participants for sustaining the cultural tradition, noting that the large gathering of Edda people in Lagos demonstrated the enduring bond among the people irrespective of their places of residence.
Ekumankama said the time had come for Edda people to build on the unity exhibited during the festival and work together for their collective wellbeing and development.
“The time has come for Edda people to remain united as one cherished entity and work together for our collective wellbeing. Our cultural unity must also translate into unity of purpose for the development of Edda,” he said.
The APC candidate urged the people to carry the spirit of togetherness from the New Yam Festival into their political and developmental engagements, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.
He called for support for APC candidates across board, saying that greater political cooperation would enable the people to attract more development and opportunities to Edda and Afikpo.
He said his aspiration to represent Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives was motivated by his desire to provide effective representation and ensure that the constituency received its fair share of federal opportunities and development interventions.
According to him, his experience as a former Minister and relationships within government circles would be deployed to attract development projects, empower constituents and advance the interests of Afikpo and Edda if elected.
