Former Minister of State for Health, Bar Joseph Ekumankama, has declared his intention to contest the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ekumankama made his declaration on Monday at a Press conference in Abakaliki .
He said his decision followed wide consultations and persistent calls from constituents seeking effective representation at the National Assembly.
“As someone who has served at the federal executive level, I understand the workings of government and the legislature. I am offering myself to provide quality representation that will attract tangible federal presence to Afikpo and Edda,” he said.
The former minister cited his record in office, including primary healthcare reforms and medical outreach programmes facilitated across Ebonyi State, as proof of his capacity to deliver. He pledged to prioritise road infrastructure, erosion control, youth employment, and agricultural support if elected.
“Our people need a strong voice in Abuja. I will sponsor people-centred bills, pursue ecological interventions for our erosion-prone communities, and ensure strict follow-up on federal projects and allocations meant for this constituency,” Ekumankama stated.
Ekumankama urged party members to close ranks ahead of the primaries, stressing unity as key to APC retaining the seat. He added that his campaign would focus on issue-based engagement and inclusive governance.
