Mbeke Beats Ekumenyi 2-0 in IFA 2025 Super League Opener








Mbeke Development Centre team defeated Ekumenyi 2-0 in the opening match of the 2025 Izzi Super League, organized by the Izzi Football Association (IFA), at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.

The tournament, sponsored by Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, drew top government officials, traditional rulers, and football fans from across the state. Chief of Staff to the Governor, Professor Emmanuel Echiegu, represented Governor Nwifuru and commended his commitment to sports development, saying it has been inspiring and transformative.

"The governor's People's Charter of Needs agenda has created opportunities for youth engagement, talent development, recreation, and physical fitness," Echiegu said. "This tournament is a platform for empowerment, social integration, and community transformation."

Echiegu praised IFA President, His Royal Highness Eze Boniface Ezagu, for his vision and dedication to grassroots football, saying the clan has reached a historic moment. Ezagu assured teams of a fair competition, thanking Governor Nwifuru for sponsoring the event.

Mbeke Development Centre Coordinator, Hon. Franklin Nwugwu, expressed confidence that his team will win the trophy, saying, "I'm happy my boys won 2-0. We're determined. With their training and today's performance, I'm confident we'll lift the cup."

The tournament was officially opened by Governor Nwifuru's representative, Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, alongside state officials and dignitaries.
