Alleged Cultists Infiltrate Ebonyi School Task Force: Produce Evidence or Face Legal Action, Commissioner Tells NAPPS Chair

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education,  Primary and Secondary Dr. Donatus Illang, has denied allegations of recruiting cultists into the committee to enforce the closure of illegal and substandard schools in the state, describing them as "baseless and reckless."

Recall that the Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Ebonyi State Chapter, Mr. Felix Nomeh, had accused the Ebonyi State Government of recruiting suspected cultists into the committee established to enforce the closure of illegal and substandard schools in Ezza North Local Government Area.

Nomeh, a member of the school closure task force, made the allegation during a press conference in Abakaliki, stating that some individuals on the committee have turned the exercise into a platform for intimidation and harassment.

Meanwhile, Dr. Illang challenged Nomeh to provide credible evidence linking the government or any of its committee members to cultism or face legal action.

"Let him produce evidence of the employment of any cultists in the committee, otherwise I will not hesitate to charge him to court," the commissioner said.

He emphasized that the state government's decision to shut down unapproved and unregistered schools is not targeted at any individual nor is it a witch-hunt against anyone.

The commissioner stressed that the state government cannot continue to allow individuals to jeopardize the educational policies and programs of the current administration.

The commissioner urged parents to take their children and wards to only approved and registered schools, pointing out that any school shut down will not be opened until all necessary criteria are met.
