Ebonyi state Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports,Mr Richard Ugo-Idike has boosted that the Abakaliki Football Club is ready to win the ongoing president Federation Cup.
The Sports Commissioner, Idike made the disclosure while responding on phone interview shortly after the Abakaliki FC defeated Ikorodu City FC during the semi-final in the fierce penalty shoot out 5-4 on Wednesday.
The semifinal match, held at the Bwari Township Stadium in Abuja, ended 0-0 in regulation time, but Abakaliki FC demonstrated remarkable composure to win 5-4 on penalties, sending shockwaves throughout Nigerian football.
According to Idike, the victory marked a new dawn for Abakaliki FC who have already knocked out top-tier sides including Katsina United , Nasarawa United, and Enyimba International in this year’s tournament even when the team is less than seven months since they were formed.
He described the victory as 'historic' and assured football lovers and Abakaliki FC fans to expect victory as the team is prepared to bring the trophy home.
